Turrican and Universal Soldier

Thu Sep 24, 2009, 10:49 AM
Let me tell you this!! I feel a great sense of understanding of how the fans of Turrican feel about the Universal Soldier on the Sega Genesis. I agree VERY much with the fans of Turrican, so my heart goes out to ALL Turrican fans!!! Things like that seem to be the commonplace for the fate of many games. All my life, I grew up thinking and feeling that Universal Soldier (movie, game, concept) and the Turrican (game, concept) always were connected. I recently had the chance to read a comment on You Tube on a Turrican video, someone had entered: "I always thought that Universal Soldier and Turrican never mixed". At first I was dumbfounded! Both Turrican and Universal Soldier had common characteristics: Both had a super soldier as the main protagonist, both set in the not-so-distant future, and the music of the two is quite similar in a lot of ways! I immediately rejected that as completely absurd. Come to think of it, I found an explanation. I used to see Turrican ads in my GamePro when I was 11-14 years old, but never had the chance to look into the game (I was too pre occupied with Super Metroid and the Mortal Kombat Series at the time). I got my first console system at 12 years old, and it was a Sega Genesis, in 1992. My older brother worked at a rental place, and he would bring home free game rentals, varied, nothing in particular. One of the games (in the handful of games) was Universal Soldier on the Sega Genesis ( note the games he brought home were the lesser rented games, so Turrican was never brought home because it was always rented out). When I slapped that game in, I was HOOKED! Everything was engaging! The music, Graphics, Gameplay, Design! Everything! Even though I had never seen the movie yet ( 4 years later I would see the movie for the first time). Little did I know that was a raped version of the indestructible Turrican. TWELVE YEARS LATER from watching Universal Soldier in 1996, which became my favorite Van Damme movie, I found the truth:

Great site RECOMMENDED for both Turrican and video game art enthusiasts.

NOW I get to see and play what I missed out on my childhood. Does anyone know how I can get the Amiga Turrican music MP3 rip on my iTunes?
